The Gdynia seaport 2-złote próba of 1936 belongs to a cluster of trial pieces produced by Mennica Polska during the mid-1930s as Poland aggressively expanded its commemorative coinage program. Gdynia itself was essentially built from scratch after 1918 — a deliberate political project to give the newly reconstituted Polish state direct Baltic access without dependence on the contested port of Danzig. By 1936 it had become one of the busiest ports in the Baltic.
The "short" variety designation distinguishes this from a parallel próba with differing text proportions, a die difference documented under the Pn series. Neither entered circulation.
