ORP General Kazimierz Pułaski (formerly USS Clark, FFG-11) was transferred to the Polish Navy in 2000 as part of a broader post-Cold War effort to modernize NATO's eastern flank through surplus US Oliver Hazard Perry-class frigates. Poland acquired two of these guided-missile frigates under a lease arrangement, a transaction tied directly to Poland's 1999 NATO accession and the accompanying pressure to bring its naval capabilities into alliance standards quickly.
The Nordic gold collector 2-złoty denomination was Poland's workhorse commemorative format throughout the 2000s and 2010s, with NBP issuing dozens annually. Mintages for the series typically ran around 900,000 pieces.
