| Obverse description | The obverse features the crowned Polish White Eagle — the traditional state emblem of Poland — displayed facing, with wings spread, rendered in a stylized socialist-era design without the royal crown on the eagle's head, as was customary for the Polish People's Republic. The eagle stands with talons outstretched against an unadorned field. The circular legend POLSKA RZECZPOSPOLITA LUDOWA (Polish People's Republic) runs along the upper periphery in Latin script, while the mint year flanked by two raised dots is inscribed along the lower rim. Poland's aluminum and brass coinage of the 1980s was produced under conditions of chronic metal shortages and industrial disruption — the same years Solidarity was suppressed, martial law was lifted, and the command economy lurched toward collapse. The brass composition here reflects ongoing material substitutions at the Mennica Państwowa in Warsaw. Mintages across this short run varied sharply year to year, driven less by monetary planning than by whatever alloy stock the mint could actually source.
