Obverse description Central device depicting a humped bull (zebu) in profile facing right, rendered in a bold, stylised manner characteristic of Khotanese coinage of the early Common Era. Kharosthi legend encircles the central device in the field, reading clockwise around the bull. The flan is irregular in shape, as typical of hammered issues from this region and period. The overall artistic style reflects the confluence of Indian and Central Asian iconographic traditions prevalent in the Tarim Basin kingdoms.
