The Central Bank of China's 1941 series was issued deep into the Sino-Japanese War, by which point the Nationalist government had been operating from Chongqing for nearly three years. Printing in Shanghai was a complex arrangement — the city was under Japanese occupation, yet Chung Hwa Book Co. continued producing currency there for the Chongqing government through intermediary arrangements, at least for a period, before production was consolidated in interior cities.
Wartime inflation was already accelerating sharply by 1941. Notes of this denomination were effectively obsolete within a few years as hyperinflation rendered low-value fabi increasingly worthless.
