| Obverse description | A finely detailed coiled imperial dragon occupies the central field, enclosed within a beaded inner circle. The dragon is rendered in high relief in the traditional Japanese style, facing right with claws extended and mouth open. Six kanji characters arranged in two vertical columns flank the beaded circle on either side, reading 大日本 (Great Japan) to the left and 明治十三年 (Meiji Year 13) to the right, with the denomination 二圓 (2 Yen) inscribed below the beaded circle. The entire design is bounded by a toothed outer border. |

The design is rendered in finely engraved relief against a plain field, enclosed within a beaded border and toothed outer rim. |
