Obverse description The Portuguese royal coat of arms rendered in a crude hammered style, centrally placed within the coin's field. The shield displays the characteristic quintas (five escutcheons) of the Portuguese arms, surmounted by a crown. The design is typical of small-denomination colonial gold coinage struck at the Goa mint under King José I.

Reverse description A bold cross pattée occupying the central field, dividing the coin into four quadrants with the date 1762 placed beneath the horizontal arm of the cross. A circular legend composed of abbreviated Latin inscriptions surrounds the cross, reading in segments ST ME GR SD. The design follows the traditional São Tomé coinage style used for Portuguese Indian gold issues of the period.
