Obverse description Within a plain shield, a rampant lion facing left, rendered in the late Gothic heraldic style characteristic of Upper Rhenish municipal coinage. The shield is centrally positioned in the field, occupying the majority of the flan. A circular legend in uncial Latin script surrounds the central device, reading +MONET`*LOVFENBERG`*, identifying the issuing city of Laufenburg. The entire composition is enclosed within a beaded inner border.
