Obverse description Right-facing laureate bust of Emperor Francis Joseph I in high relief, with sideburns and bare shoulders, occupying most of the field. The engraver's signature and fineness mark (C·R· 925 A) appear in small lettering below the truncation. A beaded border frames the design, with the imperial legend running around the periphery.

Reverse description Central composition dominated by a tall lighthouse tower in high relief, flanked on the left by a steam locomotive and on the right by a sailing vessel, symbolising the completion of the Austrian Southern Railway to Trieste. Two heraldic shields appear in the lower field amid scrollwork, each inscribed with dates 1973 and 1983, flanking a cartouche reading NUMISMATICA ISTRIA above TRIESTE in the exergue. An imperial double-headed eagle appears at the top of the legend, with the peripheral inscription divided across the upper field. A beaded border frames the entire design.
