Reverse description Central field displays the crowned royal arms of Portugal, comprising the five quinas (escutcheons) arranged in cross formation on the shield, each bearing five bezants, set within a quartered coat of arms surmounted by an ornate crown. The letter 'A' countermark, monogram of António I, is prominently applied to the left side of the shield in the field. The surrounding circular legend reads ANTONIVS I D G REX PORTVGALIE ET ALG, identifying the issuer as António I, by the grace of God King of Portugal and the Algarves. Decorative scroll-work and the beaded border frame the design. The hammered flan shows characteristic irregular edges and surface wear consistent with circulation and the application of countermarks.
