Reverse description Central field features a large oval cartouche containing the mint and denomination inscription rendered in bold, sweeping nastaliq calligraphy, reading the strike of Dar al-Saltanah Isfahan with the date AH 1271 at the base of the cartouche. The cartouche is enclosed within a beaded inner border and surrounded by an elaborate wreath of scrolling floral and vegetal arabesques that fill the field to the rim. At the top of the reverse, above the central cartouche, appears a small lion and sun motif, the imperial emblem of the Qajar state. The overall design reflects the sophisticated decorative tradition of Qajar mint engraving.
