Obverse description Central square hole flanked by four large Chữ Hán (Chinese-style) characters arranged in cruciform reading order: 紹 (top), 通 (right), 治 (bottom), 寶 (left), forming the reign-title legend 紹治通寶 (Thiệu Trị Thông Bảo). The characters are boldly incuse-cast in a clean, unadorned field typical of Vietnamese imperial cash coinage. The coin bears a raised rim encircling the entire design.
