Obverse description Full-length frontal figure of Saint Peter, turned slightly to the left, standing within the field and robed in ecclesiastical vestments, holding a key in one hand and a book in the other. The surrounding legend bears the titles of Johann VII von Schönenberg in Latin. The composition reflects the devotional iconographic tradition common to ecclesiastical coinage of the Holy Roman Empire in the late sixteenth century.

Reverse description A four-fold quartered coat of arms incorporating the arms of the Archbishopric of Trier and the Schönenberg family, dividing the date 1587 across the field. A sword and an episcopal crozier are displayed crossed behind the shield, with a mitre positioned above. The reverse legend identifies this as a new silver coinage struck at Koblenz, with the date partially integrated into the legend as N 8 7.
