| Obverse description | Armored bust of Elector John George I facing right, wearing a gorget and elaborate plate armor with a sash across the right shoulder; a sword held upright before the figure and a plumed helmet visible at left. The legend encircles the effigy in Latin, reading JOHAN GEORG D G DVX SAX and continuing around the periphery. The portrait is rendered in high relief in the bold Baroque style characteristic of early seventeenth-century Saxon coinage. |
