| Obverse description | Draped bust of Ernest Augustus, Bishop of Osnabrück and Duke of Brunswick-Lüneburg, facing right, wearing armour with an elaborately decorated breastplate and a flowing long periwig with tight curls cascading over both shoulders, rendered in high relief in the Baroque manner. The effigy is set within a finely beaded inner border that separates it from the surrounding circular Latin legend. The circumscription reads ERNESTUS AUGUSTUS D G EPISCOP OSNABR DUX BRUNS & LUN, identifying the ruler by his ecclesiastical and secular titles. |
