Reverse description The elaborately rendered crowned coat of arms of Hesse-Darmstadt, supported on either side by a rampant lion, the whole set upon a mantled and draped heraldic pavilion surmounted by the grand ducal crown. The shield displays the Hessian lion. The arms are encircled by the chain of an order at the base. The circumferential legend states the denomination and monetary convention, divided by rosette stops, with the date 1854 appearing in the lower segment.
