Obverse description Bare-headed left-facing bust of Duke Bernhard II of Saxe-Meiningen with a distinctive goatee beard and naturalistically rendered wavy hair, executed in high relief in the Neoclassical portrait style by engraver Helfricht. The truncation is plain, with the engraver's signature HELFRICHT incused at the base of the neck. The surrounding legend reads BERNHARD HERZOG ZU SACHSEN MEININGEN, disposed along the inner rim. A fine dentilated border frames the entire design.
