| Obverse description | Within a beaded inner circle, the rampant lion of Zürich facing right, holding an upright sword in its right forepaw and supporting the city's quartered shield at lower left; the lion stands upon a decorative crosshatched ground line. The circumferential legend, separated by pellet stops, reads MO:NO:THVRIC:CIVITA:IMPERIALIS with the date 1624 appearing at the top of the field between the legend and the inner circle. The entire design is framed by a rope-twist outer border, characteristic of the hammered coinage of the Zürich city mint in the early seventeenth century. |
