Reverse description Large double-headed Imperial eagle displayed in the centre of the field, with wings spread and each head crowned, bearing on its breast a heraldic orb surmounted by a cross. The eagle is rendered in high relief in the hammered style characteristic of late sixteenth-century German coinage. A circular Latin legend surrounds the design within a beaded border, reading MAXIMI II ROMA CÆSAR SEMP AVG, referencing Emperor Maximilian II as Roman Caesar and perpetual Augustus.
