| Obverse description | Full-length armored effigy of Duke Henry Julius of Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel standing facing, wearing plate armor and a plumed helmet, holding a sword upright in his right hand. A large, elaborately quartered heraldic shield occupies the lower central field, displaying the multiple quarterings of the Brunswick and Wolfenbüttel dynastic arms. The circular Latin legend runs along the outer rim, naming the duke with his full titles as Prince-Bishop of Halberstadt and Duke of Brunswick and Lüneburg. The composition is rendered in the bold, vigorous late-Renaissance hammered style typical of early seventeenth-century German thaler coinage. |
