| Obverse description | The entire field is occupied by eleven lines of incuse German-language religious verse in capital letters, the text reading: SIEH DEIN SEELIGKEIT STEHT FEST IN VATERS LIEBE / IN SEINES SOHNS VERDIENST / INS GEISTES KRAFT U TRIE / BE WAS FICHT DICH WEIFFEL / AN WAS SCHWACH HEIT / WAS DER TOD GOTTISTS / DER ALLES WIRCKY U / HILFT AUS ALLER / NOTH. The inscription fills the flan from rim to rim without any figurative devices, characteristic of the devotional 'Seligkeitstaler' type issued under Duke Ernest the Pious of Saxe-Gotha-Altenburg. A beaded or milled border frames the lettering at the periphery. |
