Reverse description The Virgin Mary, nimbed and depicted standing in three-quarter view facing left, is shown in an attitude of adoration, her hands clasped or extended toward the nimbate infant Jesus lying before her. The composition reflects a devotional Gothic iconographic tradition. A Latin legend encircles the design within a beaded border, reading · QVEM · GENVIT · ADORAVIT ·, meaning 'She adored Him whom she bore', a phrase of Marian piety commonly found on Italian Renaissance coinage.
