| Obverse description | At center, the crowned Royal shield of arms quartering the arms of England (lions passant guardant) and France (fleurs-de-lis), set within a beaded inner circle. The shield is flanked on either side by the crowned royal cipher 'E R' (Elizabetha Regina). The encircling Latin legend runs between an inner beaded border and an outer beaded rim. The overall style is consistent with Elizabethan hammered coinage of the late sixteenth and early seventeenth centuries. |

| Reverse description | At center, a crowned portcullis with chains descending from the lower corners, rendered in fine detail within a beaded inner circle; the portcullis is the heraldic badge of the East India Company. The royal crown above the portcullis is depicted with arches and jeweled band. The surrounding Latin legend is contained between an inner beaded border and an outer beaded rim, reading continuously around the coin. The design is bold and well-centered, typical of the finest Elizabethan hammered silver issues. |
