Reverse description The reverse displays the interlaced monogram AT (standing for the assayers' initials) surmounted by a plain cross with a vertical element descending into the lower field, forming a combined cruciform device. Below the monogram, the assayer's initials D and S appear flanking a central point, with the date 1644 inscribed along the lower portion of the field. The design is enclosed within a beaded border on an irregularly shaped hammered flan, consistent with the hand-struck coinage produced at the Goa Mint during the reign of João IV.
