Obverse description The obverse bears a purely epigraphic design with no figurative elements, featuring bold Jawi (Malay Arabic) script arranged in two registers divided by a horizontal line. The upper register carries the legend reading 'Awang Kompeni Dua Suku' (Company money, Two Suku), while the lower register displays the AH date 1197. The lettering is deeply incuse-struck in a robust, utilitarian style characteristic of the Fort Marlborough mint, filling the field to the rim with no border ornamentation.
