| Obverse description | Central shield bearing the rampant lion of Holland, crowned above, set within a plain inner circle. The shield is rendered in the heraldic style typical of Dutch Republic provincial coinage. The surrounding legend reads MO · NO · COM · HOLLANDIAE with the date 1601 and denomination 2 S incorporated into the inscription. A rosette mintmark for Dordrecht appears within the legend. The overall die work is characteristic of hammered silver coinage of the early seventeenth century, with slightly irregular flan edges. |
