Obverse description The obverse bears a purely typographic design with four lines of bold raised Latin lettering in the field: WEST. / FRISIA / II·STUI: / 1674, the latter line recording the date of issue. A small decorative six-petalled rosette or asterisk ornament appears above the uppermost line of text. The entire design is enclosed within a toothed or radiate inner border, itself surrounded by a plain rim, characteristic of the hammered coinage of the Dutch provincial mints of the seventeenth century.
