Obverse description The province name HOLLANDIA is inscribed across the field in three horizontal lines of large Roman capital letters, occupying the full face of the coin. A small floral rosette mintmark flanked by pellets appears in the upper field above the inscription. The date 1697 is set in the lower field beneath the province name. The coin is encircled by a bold milled or grained border, characteristic of piedfort issues of the Dutch Republic.
