Obverse description The VOC (Vereenigde Oostindische Compagnie) cipher monogram occupies the central field, formed by a large interlaced 'V' surmounted by a 'C', with the letter 'O' incorporated to compose the company's distinctive ligature. The numeral 'I' appears above the monogram, flanked by two pellets at mid-field. Below the monogram, the denomination inscription '2 . S' is rendered in bold relief. The entire design is enclosed within a toothed or engrailed border running around the circumference.
