Obverse description The lesser arms of Bulgaria occupy the central field: a crowned shield bearing a rampant lion passant, the royal crown surmounting the shield with a small cross at its apex. The design is enclosed within a beaded inner circle, with the Cyrillic legend БЪЛГАРИЯ arranged along the upper arc and the motto СЪЕДИНЕНИЕТО ПРАВИ СИЛАТА distributed around the lower arc, separated by two six-pointed stars. The overall composition reflects the heraldic style typical of late 19th-century European coinage.
