| Reverse description | At centre, the crowned Norwegian lion rampant facing left and bearing a halbert axe is displayed within an ornately framed oval shield, the whole surmounted by a royal crown. The crowned shield is set upon a large cross that fills the reverse field. Two concentric lines of Latin legend encircle the composition: the outer legend recites the king's ducal and comital titles, while the inner band bears the royal motto PIETATE·ET·IUSTITIA·. The mint master's initials are placed in the angles flanking the shield at the level of the horizontal arms of the cross, and the date is split by the lower arm of the cross. A beaded border ring frames the entire reverse design. |
