| Reverse description | Adaptation of William Dyce's quartered shield design from the original 1847 Victorian Gothic Crown. The central escutcheon displays the Royal Arms quartered with the three lions passant guardant of England (first and fourth quarters), the lion rampant of Scotland (second quarter), and the harp of Ireland (third quarter), all separated by a cross with a central roundel bearing the Garter motto HONI SOIT QUI MAL Y PENSE. The quarters are elaborately ornamented with Gothic tracery and interlace, with Tudor roses and thistles decorating the inter-quarter spaces. A Gothic-lettered outer legend reads TUEATUR UNITA DEUS and ANNO DOM MDCCCXLVII, referencing the original 1847 date of the prototype design. The entire composition is enclosed within a finely beaded and dentilated border characteristic of the Gothic Crown series. |
