| Obverse lettering | CHARLES III · DEI · GRA · REX · F · D · GIBRALTAR · 2024 · (Translation: By the Grace of God, King, Defender of the Faith) |
| Reverse description | The crowned royal coat of arms shield of King Charles III is centrally placed atop a Tudor Rose, the latter rendered in fine detail with inner and outer petals. The heraldic shield displays the quartered arms of England, Scotland, and Ireland. A continuous Latin legend in Gothic script encircles the entire design, referencing the biblical verse associated with the Sovereign coin tradition. |

The sovereign denomination traces its origins to Henry VII's 1489 issue — the first English coin to bear that name — making 2024 a plausible marker for 535 years of continuous, if interrupted, tradition. Gibraltar's role here is purely jurisdictional convenience; the territory has issued legal tender commemoratives under British Crown authority since the 1970s, allowing minting programs that the Royal Mint itself would not pursue. Charles III ascended in September 2022, meaning this is among the earlier commemorative strikes bearing his effigy in a sovereign-format piece.
