Obverse description Central device depicts a tall palm tree flanked on either side by an alpaca (llama) resting on a ground of vegetation, the whole composing the Bolivian national emblem in simplified form. Nine five-pointed stars are arranged in an arc above the central device, referencing the nine departments of Bolivia. The circumferential legend reads REPUBLICA BOLIVIANA, with the mint city PAZ at lower left, the date 1853 and denomination 2S at the base, and the assayer initial J at lower right, all separated by dots. The design is enclosed within a plain inner border and an outer dentilated rim.
