Francesco II issued this copper piece amid catastrophic circumstances for the Habsburg periphery — by 1799, Gorizia had already been occupied by French forces once, and the county's administrative future was genuinely uncertain. The coin was struck in the final years before the County of Gorizia was absorbed into the Illyrian administrative reorganization that followed the Napoleonic settlements, effectively ending its separate coinage tradition.
