| Obverse description | The obverse of this heavily worn copper coin bears the winged Lion of Saint Mark, the heraldic emblem of the Republic of Venice, depicted in the field. The surrounding legend reads S·MARC·VE·, an abbreviated Latin inscription invoking Saint Mark of Venice, the patron saint and symbolic protector of the Serenissima. The design is rendered in low relief typical of Venetian colonial copper coinage intended for circulation in the Stato da Màr territories. The flan shows characteristic irregularities consistent with hand-operated milled production of the period. |
