| Obverse description | Crowned effigy of King George VI facing left, depicted with a short beard and wearing the Imperial State Crown, rendered in high relief. The truncation of the bust is clearly defined, with the engraver's initials 'PM' visible below. The circular legend reads GEORGIVS VI D·G·BRITT·OMN·REX F·D·IND·IMP, distributed around the periphery within a beaded border. The bimetallic construction is clearly visible, with the silver centre contrasting against the brass outer ring. The portrait is the work of Percy Metcalfe and reflects a bold, naturalistic sculptural style characteristic of Royal Mint coinage of the period. |
