| Obverse description | Bare-headed left-facing effigy of King George VI, modelled by Thomas Humphrey Paget, occupies the central field. The king is depicted in a mature portrait with naturalistic detail in the facial features and neck truncation. The surrounding legend reads GEORGIVS SEXTVS REX in Latin, with the engraver's initials HP appearing at the truncation of the bust. The portrait is rendered in high relief consistent with the refined minting standards of the South African Mint. |
