Obverse description Bare-headed, laureate first portrait effigy of Queen Elizabeth II facing right, as modelled by Mary Gillick, with the hair swept back and adorned with a sprig of laurel and wheat. The truncation of the neck is plain and unadorned. The circular legend reads '+ QUEEN·ELIZABETH·THE·SECOND', separated by raised dots, and is contained within a fine beaded border running the full circumference of the coin. The portrait is rendered with exceptional relief and fine surface detail characteristic of proof production.
