| Obverse description | Horizontal note with the large bold heading ORANJE VRIJ STAAT and sub-title POST NOOT at the top centre. A one-penny fiscal adhesive stamp printed in brown, bearing the Orange Free State arms and the inscription EEN PENNY, is affixed at the upper left within a designated commissie-loon box. A denomination panel at the upper right carries the numeral 2/6 within a framed vignette. The body of the note is typeset in Dutch and bears manuscript entries identifying the Postwisselkantoor, the payee, and handwritten signatures of the Postmeester and the receiving party, with an official circular date stamp applied at lower left. |

The Post Wissel Kantoor notes of the Orange Free State were emergency issues produced as the Second Anglo-Boer War disrupted normal banking entirely. By early 1900, British forces were advancing rapidly and the Republic's financial infrastructure was collapsing — these postal exchange notes were a stopgap measure, never intended as a permanent circulating currency.
The adhesive revenue stamp used as the sole security feature reflects how improvised the whole series was. The Free State was overrun by Roberts' forces in March 1900, and the Republic was formally annexed in May. Most surviving examples from this series emerged from British military seizures rather than normal redemption.
