Additional information

Israel's annual Hanukkah coin series, launched in 1958, draws each year from a different diaspora community's lamp tradition. The 1985 issue highlights the Ashkenazic rite, specifically the distinctive style of lamp that developed among Central and Eastern European Jewish communities over several centuries. These pieces were struck for the collector market and saw essentially no circulation, which is why examples almost invariably appear in original packaging.

KM#162 was produced at the Bern Mint under contract — Israel's own minting infrastructure has historically relied on foreign facilities for its commemorative silver program.
