| Obverse description | Central field bears a bold Arabic thuluth-script legend giving the ruler's title and name, 'Al-Sultan Isma'il', arranged in multiple lines within a raised inner border of twisted rope pattern. The legend is flanked by the AH date 1167. The central inscription is enclosed by a prominent outer border of large raised pellets running continuously around the circumference, a characteristic decorative device of late Safavid hammered coinage. The flan is irregular and slightly convex, with the die impression slightly off-center as typical of hand-struck issues of this period. |
