Obverse description Bare-headed right-facing effigy of Malietoa Tanumafili II occupies the central field, modelled in high relief by engraver Thomas Humphrey Paget, whose initials HP appear below the truncation. The circumferential legend reads MALIETOA TANUMAFILI II SAMOA I SISIFO, with the date flanked by two stars positioned at the base of the coin.

Reverse description A naturalistic spray of cacao (Theobroma cacao) dominates the field, depicting a diagonal branch bearing two large, ribbed cacao pods to the right and a cluster of elongated leaves to the left, all rendered in fine relief by engraver George James Berry, whose initials JB appear in the upper right field. The denomination numeral 2 is prominently displayed in the lower centre of the field, with the legend SENE inscribed beneath it along the lower rim.
