Francis Maria II della Rovere ruled Urbino for fifty years but died without a legitimate heir, a dynastic failure that ended the entire della Rovere line and transferred the duchy directly to the Papal States in 1631. He had abdicated in favor of his son Federico Ubaldo in 1621, only to resume rule after Federico died suddenly the following year — almost certainly from syphilis at age twenty-seven.
The CNI XIII reference without a catalog number suggests this type was either unlisted or only partially documented at the time of compilation, which is not unusual for minor Urbino fractional silver.
