| Obverse description | The obverse displays the arms of the Republic of San Marino in the centre of the field: a heart-shaped shield bearing three towers on three peaks, surmounted by a royal crown topped with a cross, and flanked by a laurel branch to the left and an oak branch to the right. A ribbon at the base of the wreath bears the national motto LIBERTAS. The curved legend REPUBBLICA DI SAN MARINO arcs around the upper periphery, while the date 1997 and the engraver's signature BINO BINI appear at the lower centre of the field. |
