Obverse description Crowned four-fold quartered shield of arms, with a central escutcheon bearing the arms of Ratzeburg, enclosed within a beaded inner circle. The quadrants display the heraldic charges of the bishopric and the duchy. The circular legend surrounding the shield reads AVGVSTVS. D. G. P. E. RATZEB., identifying Bishop August by the grace of God, in Latin script.
