| Obverse description | Central field bears a quartered heraldic shield displaying the arms of the County of Barby, with a lion rampant and an eagle visible among the quarters, set within a beaded inner circle. The shield is rendered in a late Renaissance heraldic style typical of early seventeenth-century German minor states. A partial Latin legend runs around the periphery outside the beaded border, reading COM. BARB. ET. MUHL., identifying the joint comital authority of Barby and Mühlingen. The overall strike is characteristic of hammered coinage of the period, with slightly irregular flan edges. |
