Additional information

The "Unity in Diversity" inscription on this series reflected a deliberate push by the Indian government in the mid-2000s to deploy circulation coinage as a vehicle for civic messaging, coinciding with broader commemorative themes tied to India's post-liberalization national identity campaigns. The Reserve Bank had been rationalizing the rupee coinage system throughout this period, and the 2-rupee denomination had already cycled through several designs in the preceding decade.

KM#326 is part of a short production window. The stainless steel composition had replaced the earlier cupro-nickel issues following cost pressures, a transition completed in the early 2000s.
