| Obverse description | The obverse field is entirely occupied by three horizontal registers of bold Nasta'liq Arabic-script legend, separated by two ruled lines, all contained within a finely beaded border. The uppermost register bears the inscription 'Sultan al-Adil' (the Just Sultan), the central register reads 'Abu al-Fath' (Father of Victory), and the lower register carries the name 'Tipu', together constituting the royal titulature of Tipu Sultan of Mysore. Decorative rosette or pellet ornaments are scattered between the letters, adding to the characteristic visual style of Mysorean coinage of this period. The legends are rendered in a bold, deeply incised relief characteristic of hammered Indian silver issues of the late 18th century. |
