Additional information

Gyanendra's first stint as king lasted just three days in June 2001, following the palace massacre that killed King Birendra and most of the royal family. He was crowned again later that year after Crown Prince Dipendra — who had carried out the shootings — died from self-inflicted wounds while technically reigning in a coma. This coin predates that catastrophe, issued under the constitutional framework Gyanendra would later suspend entirely when he seized direct executive power in 2005.
